Solar energy is one of the fastest growing areas in the renewables sector and can play a major part in Ireland meeting its 2030 goal of achieving 80% in renewable electricity generation. Uptake of solar energy by homes in Ireland saw a sharp increase with the introduction of a generous maximum grant of €2,400 in 2022 for homes across the country. Whilst this has been a driving factor in making solar more accessible for homes, the grant has been decreasing yearly by €300. The grant will reduce again in 2025 to a maximum of €1,800 and will continue to fall each year until 2028
With the end of the year fast approaching, now is the time to act if you’ve been considering solar panels for your home. Applications must be made through the SEAI website. The application process is straight forward and is open to every home with a MPRN number in Ireland. To register your home and receive the maximum grant of €2,100 simply visit The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) before Jan 1st 2025. At Blackwell Energy we are on hand to help and can guide you through every step of the process from your initial home survey to claiming your grant.
Making the switch to solar energy for your home or business might seem like a complicated move but we make it very straight forward at Blackwell Energy. We are here to help you every step of the way. The process all starts with a visit from one of our expert solar consultants. Every home is different and with a free home survey we can assess the needs of your home to advise on the best solution for you. The determining factors in choosing the best solar solution for your home are listed below
Your Current Energy Consumption
By reviewing the most recent bills from your energy supplier, taking your current unit rate and number of units used we can generate a detailed report for your home, breaking down the savings you can make by adding solar to your home. This report is provided free of charge
Next we survey your home or business’s available roof space or ground space in the case of a ground mounted solar system to determine the amount of potential space for panels. In the course of this survey we also locate the cable runs and placement of the inverter. Generally in a residential home the inverter is place in an attic space.
There are some factors to consider when selecting the best solar installation for your home. One of the most common questions we receive is Should I add battery storage to my solar install ? This can be a difficult question to answer and depends a lot on the household. Adding battery storage to your solar PV system allows you to save any unused solar electricity produced from your system to be used at a later time. Mosts homes fitted with solar over produce power and this power is sold back to the grid. Fitting battery storage to your home allows you to harness more of your installs capabilities and futher reduces your over all energy spend.
If your home is unoccupied in the daytime when solar panels generate the most electricity it’s an option to store the excess power in a battery for use later that evening rather than selling back to the grid at a fixed rate.
If you spend more time at home in the peak solar production times of the day then you are using the power as you are making it, with less being sold back to the grid. In this case a battery is less effective.
With reductions in the solar grants on the way it’s still a good time to make the switch to solar pv for your home or business. With the current grant at €1,800 until the 1st Jan 2025 this is still a good opportunity to avail of a generous government grant then is set to fall by €300 each year until 2028. Installing solar Pv on your home or business can save you up to 70% on your current energy spend and helps hoseholds across the country reduce there reliance on traditional energy resources. At Blackwell energy we are one of the countries fastest growing solar energy providers and take pride in guiding our clients through the process of harnessing this renewable energy.
